Mile High JACL Community Forum

August 24, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Mile High JACL Community Forum 8.22.17

Mile High JACL Community Forum

Thursday, August 24th
6:30 – 8:30 PM
At Sakura Square Mezzanine

Light refreshments will be served
Marge Taniwaki and Carolyn Takeshita will be telling their story: “How Come all the Japanese American Students are at Manual High School?”

This is an ongoing series to explore the issues of racism in the Japanese American and Asian American Communities. We started with the hope of dialoguing with Terry Frei and Phil Covarrubias, but they did not “show up” at the meeting. This was not unexpected. However, there may still be a meeting with at least one them in the future. This doesn’t mean that we cannot learn about how racism shows up in a “model minority” community, and how to understand what can be done even though racism is a difficult process to eradicate. Working together a community that thoroughly understands the dynamics of racism can become a powerful influence on the culture of Denver and the state of Colorado.

Please join us in this important dialogue. Please RSVP to al_ots@hotmail.com.
